The Department of Fisheries reports that on Tuesday, July 11th, 2017, 47-year-old, Fransisco Villamil, Fisherman of Sarteneja Village, Corozal District was caught at the Home Protector Park located off Coney Drive in Belize City in possession of twenty lobsters weighing under the subscribed four ounces.
Villamil appeared before Senior Magistrate, Sharon Fraser to answer to a single charge of “Possession of Undersized Lobsters” to which he pled guilty.
A fine of $200 plus a $5.00 cost of court fee was imposed for the offence.
He has until July 31st, 2017 to pay this fine or will be in default and will be sentenced to two months in prison.
Villamil was also additionally fined $20 per each undersized lobster found in his possession, amounting to a total of $400 of which he was given until August 31, 2017 to pay.
