Chester Williams Gets Replaced By Former GSU Commander

On Monday, July 3rd, Senior Superintendent of Police, Marco Vidal, better known as the former Commander of the Gang Suppression Unit (GSU) officially replaced the current Assistant Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, as the commander of the police’s Eastern Division South.

Williams will now head the Police Professional and Standards Branch in Belmopan.

Williams was given command of Belize City’s volatile south side where he managed to broker several peace treaties, led conflict prevention efforts and promoted a new style of law enforcement, “community policing” to help make the South Side safer for everyone.

Despite his success, Williams was removed and replaced by the former Gang Suppression Unit (GSU) Commander, Marco Vidal.
