Benque Viejo Police Officer Caught Trafficking Salvadorans

On the night of Saturday, December 10th, 2016, San Ignacio Police Officers intercepted a black in colour Chrysler Pacifica brand vehicle on the George Price Highway, near the Carillo Puerto Gas Station, after they noticed the vehicle had no license plates on it.

Upon stopping the vehicle they found the male behind the driver’s seat to be a Police Corporal attached to the Benque Viejo Police Station.

Also within the vehicle were eight passengers, five adults and three minors, who were observed to be wearing wet clothing as if they had been crossing the river between Guatemala and Belize.

The eight passengers were unable to produce any proof of legal entry into the country.

They were later identified as being of Salvadoran nationality and are being detained at the San Ignacio Police Station along with the Police Corporal.

The Police Corporal was also found with $3,000.00 in US Currency in his possession.
